Colorado Training and Climbing

We are proud to collaborate with our friends at 14er Fitness to provide all MVX clients with a training styled adventure in our very own backyard, the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

This is an invaluable opportunity for our MVX clients to:

  • Test your body against the challenges of altitude
  • Ascend a mountain with a local expert on mountaineering and expedition fitness
  • Enjoy a "working" vacation while prepping for your upcoming trip

14er Fitness provides comprehensive training programs for mountain climbing, hiking, and trekking.  Our training programs consist of guided training climbs in the Colorado Rockies and Customized Fitness Programs.  By training in Colorado’s high altitude environment, clients are able build up their cardio-vascular endurance, strength, and overall confidence on long duration treks and climbs.  Whether it is Kilimanjaro, Aconcagua, or Everest Base Camp - 14er Fitness Training Climbs can help you achieve your mountain climbing goals. We offer 1, 2 and 3 day programs and are happy to customize an itinerary on request.

Training Climbs

The best way to train for mountain climbing is to go mountain climbing.  The Colorado Rocky Mountains form a spectacular roof, capping the western United States.  With 54 peaks over 14,000-feet, and over 1500 others that extend above timberline, Colorado is one of the best mountain climbing training grounds in the world. 

 

1 Day Training Program

The one day training climb is designed to get you hike altitude exposure and training in a short amount of time.  14er Fitness uses experienced guides and fitness specialists to ensure clients are adequately prepared for their next outdoor adventure. .  This program includes travel to and from the mountains and an attempt of one of Colorado's 14,000 ft. mountains. Peak selection is based on time of year, group size, and fitness levels.

Itinerary

Arrival
Depart from home cities; arrive at Denver International Airport (DEN) by 5pm.  Meet for airport pick up and travel to Summit County for gear check, dinner, and rest.

Training Climb
Hike Time: 6 – 9 hours
Elevation Change: 3,000 - 4,000 ft
Estimate Distance:  6-10 miles

Departure
Arrive at DIA by 12pm and depart for home cities

Fees
$150/ person

Cost of Trip Includes:

  • Transportation to and from airport and to hiking trailheads.
  • Training hike with experienced guide and fitness specialist.
  • All meals and snacks while hiking.
  • 14er Fitness T-shirt

Cost of Trip Does Not Include:

  • Airfare to and from Colorado
  • Hotel (if you are not camping - recommendations available if needed)
  • Meals and snacks on non-hiking days

 

 

3 Day Training program

The 3 Day Training Climb is a more extensive program designed to prepare individuals for the physical demands of long duration hikes and high altitude climbs.  This program includes an acclimation hike, an attempt of one of Colorado's 14,000 foot mountains and a fitness analysis at completion.  14er Fitness uses experienced guides and fitness specialists to ensure clients are adequately prepared for their next outdoor adventure.  Peak selection will be based on time of year, group size, and fitness level.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival
Depart from home cities; arrive at Denver International Airport (DIA) by 5pm.  Meet for airport pick up and travel to Summit County for gear check, dinner, and rest.

Day 2 - Acclimation Hike
Hike Time: 3.5 hours
Elevation Change: 1,600 ft
Estimate Distance: 5 miles

Day 3 - Summit Day
Hike Time: 6 – 9 hours
Elevation Change: 3,000 - 4,000 ft
Estimate Distance:  6-10 miles
Depart for home cities - optional

Day 4 - Fitness Evaluations & Departure
Hiking and fitness evaluations. Arrive at DIA Airport by 4pm and depart for home cities
