No Barriers Leadership Expedition

Sample Itinerary | Our Facilitators | About No Barriers

Our three-day corporate leadership experiences include:

An inspirational conversation about the No Barriers mindset with world-class speaker and adventurer Erik Weihenmayer. Here’s how the president of a financial services firm describes Erik’s message: “Over the years we have hosted more than a dozen political leaders, military leaders such as General Norman Schwarzkopf, sports leaders such as Duke Basketball “Coach K,” and leaders of the arts such as Benjamin Zander, conductor of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra. Yet among all of these outstanding speakers, none has been as impactful as Erik Weihenmayer has proven to be with our senior management and clients.”

A field experience using the mountains as a metaphor for the challenges of the business environment. Our team synthesizes the strength of some of the world’s most accomplished mountaineers and business thought leaders to challenge your team to work together, confront challenges, and identify best practices to achieve mutual objectives. Moving well beyond a typical corporate retreat experience, our expeditions include a professionally designed curriculum, challenging—but safe—mountain experiences, and personal and team assessments, as well as open and honest feedback mechanisms. We use the mountain experience to help individuals assess their interpersonal styles and skills to identify the core values that impact their personal and interpersonal effectiveness.

A deep connection to a meaningful cause providing your team members an opportunity to work alongside one of our wounded veterans in our Soldiers to Summits program, for example.

We offer a limited number of retreats annually to companies with leaders who are ready to a) embrace the challenge of living a No Barriers mindset, b) engage in open and honest dialogue with their team members, and c) support our nonprofit cause.

The No Barriers Mindset

These three-day transformative leadership experiences help corporate leaders embrace a No Barriers mindset as they discover that we can build the vision, tools, and support systems to harness adversity, creating a professional and personal life that is rich in fulfillment, purpose, and impact. Mindsets are difficult to teach and even harder to embrace. That’s why No Barriers believes in authentic and challenging immersion experiences that push us outside our comfort zones. These experiences challenge us intellectually, emotionally, and physically. And, in the process, we open up a rich arena to share core values through a framework that includes beliefs and principles, attitudes and perspectives, qualities and virtues, and rules and standards.

Sample Itinerary

Each program is tailored to the unique goals of participating companies. All include some element of a challenging, safe, and accessible outdoor experience that pushes our comfort zone. This sample itinerary adapts based on client goals.

Arrival Night: Dinner with No Barriers facilitators; shuttle from Denver airport to mountain retreat center.

Day One: Introduction to the No Barriers Mindset with Erik Weihenmayer; individual and team leadership assessment of flow assets and liabilities; reflective hike up a Colorado peak and application of Mindset to real world corporate challenges; dinner discussion.

Day Two: Glacial mountaineering discussing building trust, openness, and honest communication; work alongside wounded veteran from Soldiers to Summits program; team debrief and continued application of No Barriers Mindset; personal and team goal development and sharing; single act of change and concluding dinner and ceremony.

I wanted to thank you for all of your help with my African Adventure. It was an unbelievable trip and experience that I did not want to end. I absolutely loved climbing Kilimanjaro. I would highly recommend my guide (Joseph) to anyone. He was great and I learned a lot of Swahili.

The safari was equally amazing. I am actually glad that I went by myself. I met so many amazing people. Both Joseph and my safari guide Siya are now great friends along with people I met from all over the world. I enjoyed getting to know the porters as well.

I am completely hooked on climbing bigger mountains and traveling and am trying to figure out where to go next!

I am 55, a female professional, working more than full-time like the rest of you. I have always lived at sea level, have a big fear of heights and exposure, and just moved from hiking to trekking over a year ago. When I said yes to climbing Kilimanjaro, it was because I could trust Jeff with my life after watching his interactions with our disabled vets on a climb of Mt Elbert. I thought, "If they can do it, maybe I can face my fears too." Although the trek was only two months away and Jeff was the only person I knew on the trip, I decided to commit and threw myself into high gear with my training.

We had a 100% successful summit and I absolutely found out I could trust Jeff with my life, but that wasn't the greatest surprise. Jeff's leadership style and the way that he bonded our diverse team together gave me one of the most fabulous life-changing experiences and I will continue to climb with MountainVision to see the rest of the world with all my new friends. Thanks Jeff and team!
